Protection From Pridefulness
Heavenly Father, God, please have mercy on me and protect me from pridefulness.
Illumine my understanding with wisdom.
Show me any snares or problems I may have or anything that may affect my life with pridefulness.
Warn me and show me the path of humility, and honor for You, and respect for Your goodness.
Eradicate pride from my life and let me serve You with humility and righteousness for Your Name’s sake.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
I’ve been studying Kay Arthur’s book, Lord, Is It Warfare? Teach Me To Stand with my women’s Bible study group in Washington. It is one of those books that you write in as you study. On page 39 Kay Arthur left a space for us to write our own prayer, and this is the one I wrote there.
The book is fantastic. It is opening my mind to a world situation I didn’t know existed.
To explain, I didn’t know Satan really existed until I gave my entire heart and life to Jesus last summer. Until then, I was what I called a “label-less believer” meaning I believed in God but didn’t identify with any faith or religion. I believed Jesus was from God but didn’t believe everything the Bible said about Him. And so, I didn’t believe in Satan. I believed only the good, and not the bad.
After my change of heart on July 14, 2013, when I unexpectedly found salvation and new life through Jesus, I started reading the Bible daily, and gradually came to understand that Satan is real too.
You can imagine how easy it was for Satan to mess with me all those years when I didn’t even believe in him. I could write a book about that. Maybe I will. So many people are unaware of the war going on between good and evil. I wanted to be good but I was seriously afflicted by evil influences, especially for those last 13 years.
But Jesus heard my cry for help. He guided me to safety, and He healed me.
Now I am His.
I’ve read through most of the first three chapters already.
The first chapter led us through the book of Ephesians. Throughout the book we will be memorizing Ephesians 6:10-18…
The Armor of God
10 – Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11 – Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 – Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
14 – Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
15 – and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;
16 – in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 – And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 – With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints…

In Chapter Two of the book we studied what the Bible tells us about Satan.
He was a cherub living on God’s Holy Mountain.
God created him beautiful, but he became vain and prideful, then wanted to be exalted above all others in the heavenly places. That exalted place was reserved for Jesus.
Because of Satan’s pride, God cast him down to the earth. This beautiful cherub was burned to ashes and turned into a serpent-like dragon.
Now he roams the earth looking for victims… people whose lives he can upset so he can keep them from enjoying freedom under God’s protection.
Chapter Three of the book is Lord, Satan’s Roaring, Need I Fear? In it Kay Arthur explains what is happening during a satanic attack and how we can be confident about God’s protection.
We need to recognize the attacks, and pray for help.
God is always more powerful than the devil.
6 – Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
7 – casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
8 – Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
9 – But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
She helps us understand Satan more by reading the first two chapters of the book of Job.
Clearly, a key to not coming under the influence of Satan is to avoid pride and live in humility.
That’s as far as I’ve gone in this book as of the date of this writing.
The video I’m posting here is about a different Kay Arthur book we recently finished, and it shows this new book as a comparison… I filmed the video right before we started studying the new book.
