Release From Sin
My Lord, my Heavenly Father, I direct my prayer to You, knowing You are the one who can heal my life, calm my fears, and bring joy and light into my heart.
Thank You for Your Holy Word, the Bible, given to us for guidance, and for peace of heart and mind. Thank You for the opportunity to read Your Word daily.
Heavenly Father, we are a sinful people, held back from You by the sins and misbehaviors we’ve indulged in. There are many ways for a person to sin. It could be addiction to substances or unhealthy attachment to people who are toxic to our lives. Our sins could include tendencies to do or think evil, or to be stubborn, prideful, prejudiced or insensitive to the needs and emotions of others.
Lord, You and I know my own special types of sinfulness and what caused me to sin in these ways.
Lord, please heal what’s wrong with my life. Remove those evil strongholds that block me from living joyfully in the light of Your love and in service to Your people.
Lord, I want to abide in Your Word, saved by Your grace, so I can be Your true and joyfully sincere disciple.
Lord, I want to know the truth, Your precious truth, and want to be set free from the cycles of sinfulness that have afflicted my life. Please release me from slavery to sinfulness, and allow me the freedom, peace and joy that You alone can give.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
I wrote the prayer for release from sin this morning after reading John 8:31-36…
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
I’m reading through the Gospel of John, slowly. I’m going slow this time so I can think deeply about each section of the book. I’ve decided to (possibly!) write a prayer each day about something I’ve seen in my daily reading, and today chose to write about freedom from sin.
If you’re suffering from sinfulness, I hope you will read this prayer and find comfort in using it. Or maybe you know someone dealing with sin, and need to alter the prayer to be used for another person. We all sin – but all can be forgiven by our Lord Jesus Christ when we surrender our lives to Him and accept His kind offer of salvation.
The topic of sinfulness has come up several times recently in my home group and women’s Bible study group. This encouraged me to think about what sins I’m guilty of. Many sins no longer entice me, and some never did, however there are those hidden sins like angry thoughts about someone who upset me, or sudden attacks of pride, or eating too much – the sin of gluttony. We don’t have to sin massively to have a massive problems with sin.
Trust in Jesus – He can help. Jesus is the greatest healer who ever lived. And He loves us!
